According to scriptures like Acts 2:42-47; Heb. 2:4 the NT church was distinguished by:
- Personal eyewitnesses like the 12 Apostles, Paul and others like Stephen;
- Sharing everything in common, church commune system, e.g., sold all their possessions and shared everything;
- God confirming via signs, wonders, various miracles/powers and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
So, where is that church today?
First, ask the following questions:
- Are there eyewitnesses like the 12 Apostles, Paul, or others like Stephen;
- Are churches communes? I.e., selling all their possessions and sharing everything;
- Are there signs, wonders, various miracles/powers and all the gifts according to the beliefs and practices of the church of Acts?
If you’re honest with yourself, especially others, that type of church is nowhere to be found today!
But that doesn’t mean we don’t have a church at all because Christianity is not:
The church of Acts or bust!
We have the same Jesus purpose statement (Luke 4.43) and the great commission to teach and baptize all the nations into Jesus (Mat 28:20; cp. Acts 8:12).
